JJE Auto Mechanical Repairs was founded by Johan Swanepoel, a qualified hydraulic fitter with a passion for precision and service excellence. The journey began humbly in 1997 when Johan, a family man from the Free State, was retrenched from a mine he had worked at for years. Rather than being defeated by the setback, Johan saw it as an opportunity for reinvention. He made the bold decision to relocate to Cape Town and follow his dream of starting his own auto mechanical and hydraulic repair business.
With limited resources but a clear vision, Johan purchased a secondhand Mitsubishi 250 bakkie — its engine removed and lying on the back of the vehicle. Using his skills, he repaired and reassembled the engine, and the vehicle became JJE’s first workhorse — a symbol of resourcefulness and determination, and still in use today.
From day one, Johan was committed to delivering work of the highest quality. He personally trained each staff member and dedicated time to building strong, lasting relationships with clients. His approach to customer service was simple: be hands-on, be honest, and always strive for excellence.
As the business grew, Johan moved operations from his home to the Kraaifontein Industrial Park, where JJE Auto Mechanical Repairs continued to thrive for over two decades.
One of the company’s early milestones was stepping in to resolve serious hydraulic issues on the first-ever sliding tipper built for Tip Trans in Johannesburg. Rather than sending the faulty trucks back, JJE conducted extensive repairs and replacements in Cape Town, saving the client time and cost. Tip Trans remains a valued client to this day, more than 23 years later.
Johan also led the team through major projects, including the successful installation of complete hydraulic pump systems and diesel tanks on ten large trucks — all completed within just four days, thanks to the dedication and teamwork of JJE's committed staff.
